itinerance, walking tours in Southern French Alps

Dear Anita,
Now many days on from our holiday, I wanted to say thank you for all the organisation and the extremely friendly and generous welcome we received from you all. Without a doubt, this was for us as a family the best time we have ever spent together. We have in the past done package holidays, where everything is planned around a hotel with pools and bars........ and found them nice but not fully satisfying. My only regret is that I’ve discovered Les Alpes Maritime late in life, but I certainly intend to return, and my daughter and her boyfriend say exactly the same.
Jupiter was quite a character, and although our animal loving nature probably gave him a very easy week, we loved it.
So thank you, thank you, thank you, to yourself and everyone who helped make this a week we will definitely remember for the rest of our lives.
Kind regards
Keith, Sue, Moya and JordanI am reborn! Simply the best holiday I have ever been on Mercantour self guided walking holidays, reviewed 26/8/06

by Andrew Baxter. Great holiday - five-star trip. Superb scenery; walks outstanding capped by 10,000-foot climax (Mont Pelat); well organised; easy to follow route; very amenable hosts at night stops; honest mountain fare (and plenty of it); mostly off the tourist trail; good value for money; under our own steam but companionship from other trekkers in eves; accommodation basic but, on the whole, charming; glad to support local economy in lesser visited valley; no Brits (that's a plus!). How do we beat that next year?

Hello Christine,
Just a quick e-mail to let you know we had a fantastic walk up through the Haute Vallée du Var to the Parc du Mercantour with Manu (our donkey) last week. Manu was perfect for us as was the accommodation and food for the whole week.
Thankyou and best regards Keith and Leanne Massey

Dear Christine,
Many thanks for a very good holiday - c'etait formidable!
Itinerance is a very nice organisation - ecological and ethical - and your link with Nepal sounds very interesting.
I don't know if you send out information to friends from time to time?
 Best wishes,Mark Clayton and family

Dear Christine,
Marian Hall here again! Hope you are well and that you had a good season. Also that your son managed in his beautiful hostel! We ladies had such a lovely walking trip with you in the Mercantour that we are considering doing the other walk with you next spring!! If I understand correctly it is in the central, slightly higher Mercantour. .... We are still talking about the fantastic trip we had with the 2 Scandinavian ladies and thank you again so much. I look forward to hearing again from you!!
Love Marian

Dear Christine
A note to thank you very much indeed from all 6 of us for the most amazing walking holiday!! We are still reeling from the walking and fun we had. Watch out you may be getting lots more english youngsters like ourselves over to experience the Mercantour!! We returned in the pouring rain and it hasn't really changed since we have been home. At least we all look healthy and suntanned even though rather tired!! Hope Jeremy enjoyed his trip to London and the surprise theatre trip too. I'm sure you'll be seeing more of us in the future as we are already thinking of doing the other trip in the centre of the park!
With love and thanks again. Anny

Dear Christine,
Thank you.We still recommend your holidays to everyone; we had such a wonderful time in your mountains with Gedeon, and we hope to be back!
Best wishes

Hello Christine
We enjoyed reading this article. Our trip with you last summer was very special and we would be happy for you to give our e-mail address to any UK based enquirers who are thinking of booking and would like to speak to someone who has already been.
Best wishes

Dear Itinerance: A review of one of your holidays has been submitted by Nick Lampert regarding Mercantour National Park self guided walking holidays via responsibletravel.com online feedback submission form.

1. What was the most memorable or exciting part of your holiday?

-The mountains, flora and fauna in an exceptionally beautiful and unspoilt part of the world, within and on the periphery of the Mercantour National Park in the French maritime Alps. Also staying in auberges and gites among friendly people, with excellent breakfasts, picnic lunches and evening meals provided as part of the package.

2. What tips would you give other travellers booking this holiday?

-The key thing is to be adaptable. We were lucky with the weather, which was consistently good for the week we were there (mid-August) but it is not always perfect even in summer. However Itinerance provides a choice of routes in getting from one rest place to another, and this flexibility is a huge advantage. Don't go if five star accommodation is what you want, but having said that, the level of service at the rest places was generally very good. The contact with like-minded walkers looking for quiet communication with nature, away from large crowds, was also very rewarding.

3. Did you feel that your holiday benefited local people, and minimized impacts on the environment?

-Yes, it was clear that the Itinerance walking holidays were very important to the local economy, yet at the same time organised in a way that was very friendly to the local environment.

4. Finally, how would you rate your holiday overall?

-Excellent. Finally, how would you rate your holiday overall? **** Some wonderful memories, I would not hesitate to recommend it to a friend

Dear Itinerance-trekking A review of one of your holidays has been submitted by Alison Godfrey regarding Donkey hiking tour in the Southern French Alps

. 1. What was the most memorable or exciting part of your holiday?

-The whole thing! Our 6 year old and 4 year old leading "Leonidas" our donkey through the French Alps, sleeping in a beautiful yurt in an Alpine meadow, and feeling like we'd done something completely different to the typical "bucket and spade" type of holiday.

2. What tips would you give other travellers booking this holiday?

-We expected our young children to grumble about the hiking but in fact they exceeded all expectations and walked 5 steep miles per day for 3 days in a row. It's easy to under-estimate what your kids (and you) can do.

3. Did you feel that your holiday benefited local people, reduced environmental impacts or supported conservation?

Mercantour NP is a protected national park. It is very beautiful and the trip felt like it had low impact on the environment.

4. Finally, how would you rate your holiday overall? Excellent. Some aspects could be improved (we were given little for breakfast - some stale bread and butter, but the jam, tea and coffee had all run out). But as long as you are easy going about such things (we'd brought our own supplies, just in case!), you will have a great adventure in beautiful surroundings. Finally, how would you rate your holiday overall? **** Some wonderful memories, I would not hesitate to recommend it to a friend
